Description:
The plaque is located in the lobby of the old Royal Naval Academy.

History:
The plaque was unveiled on 5th October 2001.  Commander I.M. Crabtree of HM Naval Base Portsmouth was instrumental in arranging the installation of the plaque.

ASTRONOMER AND CIRCUMNAVIGATOR,
WAS BORN IN BISHOP’S CANNINGS, WILTSHIRE.
HE SAILED TWICE AROUND THE WORLD WITH
CAPTAIN JAMES COOK
AND WAS LATER MASTER OF THE ROYAL NAVAL ACADEMY
LOCATED IN THIS BUILDING FROM 1785 to 1806.
