Description: Cairn and plaque at the south end of the beach. Burney’s Beach is a small bay next to Wharehunga. History: The monument was erected by the Mana Cruising Club. Unveiled 13th November 1971 by the first New Zealand born Governor General, Sir Arthur Porritt. The cairn was prefabricated in four sections before being shipped to the site on the Club’s vessels, it was then erected by the Cruising Club members. Inscription: Large plaque:
