Description: The memorial is located inside St Bartholomew’s Church, Groton, on a wall just above the south entrance door. History: The burial entry for Alexander Hogg in the Parish Records of 1828 reads “Alexander Hogg of Boxford was buried December 12th, aged 72 years”. Church records show that during a survey of monumental inscriptions in this church and churchyard in 1924 did not include this monument. Indicating that it was placed in the church after that year. Inscription: On the Memorial tablet:
IN AFFECTIONATE MEMORY OF ALEXANDER HOGG PURSER ROYAL NAVY WHO SERVED UNDER CAPTAIN COOK DURING HIS LAST VOYAGE LORD NELSON AT ABOUKIR, COPENHAGEN, &C AND WHOSE MORTAL REMAINS ARE DEPOSITED SOUTH OF THIS CHURCH. BORN AT BERWICK DIED AT BOXFORD, DECEMBER 6TH 1828 AGED 72
