Tablet to Cook at St Cuthbert's Church, Marton, North Yorkshire, UK

Description:  Large slate tablet erected on the south wall of the nave, inside the church.

History:  First erected in the church by the parishioners in 1812, and re-erected in the Captain Cook Memorial School in 1850.
Returned and re-erected in the church in 1989, on the closure of the School.

Inscription:

IN MEMORY OF CAPTAIN JAMES COOK, R.N., F.R.S.
THE CELEBRATED NAVIGATOR,
 WHO
 WAS BORN IN THIS PARISH, October 27th, 1728.
THIS TABLET WAS ERECTED BY THE PARISHIONERS OF MARTON
AD. 1812
RE-ERECTED HERE AT THE BUILDING OF THIS MEMORIAL SCHOOL AD 1850

THE ABOVE TABLET WAS RETURNED TO THE PARISH CHURCH AD 1989.
