A $1.55 stamp to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the birth of George Vancouver was issued in a pane of eight and a souvenir sheet of one.
Born in King’s Lynn, Lincolnshire, Vancouver sailed on Cook’s Second Voyage and later led an expedition to the west coast of Canada, naming some 400 places. He is shown at the railings, as though we are looking over his shoulder and out to sea. His signature runs down the right hand side of the stamp.
