Exhibition about health at sea and in space at CCMM, Whitby Until 2 November 2025

Uncharted Dangers: Health at Sea and in Space is the special exhibition for 2025 at the Captain Cook Memorial Museum.

It takes a close look at the dangers faced by an 18th century sailor on a long voyage.  The focus is on the role of naval surgeons, looking at what instruments they would have had in their chests, and examining the techniques they might have used.

The exhibition also seeks to compare and contrast these perils with those faced by an astronaut travelling to Mars, on which there is an increasing focus on establishing a colony.

Location: Captain Cook Memorial Museum, Grape Lane, Whitby, UK.
