In a recent article John Robson wrote about Love Constable, who sailed with Captain James Cook on his Second Voyage.1 The article referred to Catherine Mary Constable, who married Benjamin Pidcock, the son of the executor of Love Constable’s will. The article also said Richard Constable, Love’s brother, mentioned Catherine Mary in his will, calling her his niece.
For a number of years I had thought that she might have been the daughter of Love Constable. We know he sailed the world and that she was born in the Caribbean. However, I now know from a document recording the sale of her father's property in the Caribbean (after his death), that Catherine Mary was the daughter of another brother Francis, who was a planter in St. Kitts.
