John Cavanagh joined Adventure for Cook’s Second Voyage on 14 March, 1772, at Deptford, as an able bodied seaman (AB). He died at Wharehunga Bay (Grass Cove), New Zealand, on 17 December, 1773. According to the musters, he was born in Kilkenny, Ireland, about 1742. Cavanagh had joined Resolution on 17 December, 1771, but was discharged on 5 February, 1772.
Perhaps, if he had remained with Resolution, he would have survived?
