The steel hulled replica Endeavour at Stockton, which was launched on 19th September 1993, is looking more like a ship every day. [See pages 889, 949 and 998]
At Castlegate Quay a 150-foot crane has been used to help fit three masts and a boom. The next stage of work is to fit out the captain's cabin; it should become operational and suitable for conferences by the end of this year.
At the end of March the ship was blessed by the Bishop of Whitby, the Rt. Rev. Gordon Bates. He was invited to perform the ceremony to maintain Castlegate's links with Whitby, where the original Endeavour was built.
