The West Coast of Canada regional meeting of the Captain Cook Society on November 13, 2022, was held using Zoom again. There were 24 people participating, with Randy Komar as facilitator.
Our guest speaker, Steve Ragnall, gave a very interesting talk about events surrounding the 1759 battles on the Plains of Abraham near Quebec, Canada. Steve spoke about the Seven Years War, and Cook’s role in mapping Gaspé Harbour and the St. Lawrence Estuary. Compared to current satellite photographs, Cook’s maps were very accurate. Steve’s slides were well done, complete with music at times, which made the history come alive.
Participants tuned in from Australia, New Zealand, the UK, USA and Canada. A question period followed the talk, which led to much discussion.
