It was nearly three years ago, at the CCS meeting in Bonn, Germany (held to coincide with the exhibition James Cook and the Exploration of the Pacific in the city) that member Robrecht Siera approached me with what started as a discussion on the current web design, and ended with a proposal for a complete redesign.
 
From then on we both have been working in our spare time to migrate the more then 600 pages of the old website into a better structure that expands on the extra items on the website (such as Society News and extracts from Richard Aulie’s version of the Cook story) will help me display more of the pictures you send me that I don’t have room for in the pages of Cook’s Log enables me to more easily put up articles previously published in Cook’s Log and has great features new to us (such as being able to leave Comments)
 
We have opted for a design that combines the atmosphere we sometimes imagine / associate with Cook’s voyages, together with the brisk vibrant reality of paintings of the time and modern photographs.
My thanks to John Warburton for obtaining / providing the images and copyright permission to use them.
 
The society’s first presence on the internet was in 1997, when it was hosted and managed by member Chris Jones.
In 2003 I redesigned the site’s contents and look, and moved it to a new hosting server.
Robrecht and his team (particularly Sofie Van Beeck) has not only produced a powerful major design but also arranged the new hosting server.
 
As other web sites (such as Wikipedia) have links to some of our individual pages, we have ensured they will continue to work without any change.

You folks have done a marvelous job with this site, easy to navigate(no pun intended) with lots of information and a great look. I didn't see the old one but certainly love what you done with this one.

Being a non-techie, I can only imagine the work that y'all have put into this new website---and all the Society's previous publications. I agree with Cliff---WOW! and THANKS!

Well, what can I say the new website is wounderful I haven't gone right through it yet but what I have seen is very good.

G'day Ian,

I have just started moving through the website but am already extremely impressed with all I come across, from the layout, to the images, categories of content, and the whole 'feel' of the site, really. You and your web design colleagues are to be congratulated.

I look forward to further browsing and may offer other comments as I notice things.
